Jordan
Today we flew in Amman, the capital city of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Although the flight was long we were invigorated by the thought of heading to Mt Nebo and to look across the Promised Land just as Moses did as relayed in the Old Testament. Here is where Joshua was blessed so to lead the Israelites under God’s protection (Joshua 1:6-9)
In 2009 His Holiness Benedict XVI said “ Here on Mt Nebo, the memory of Moses invites us to ‘lift up our eyes’ to embrace with gratitude not only God’s mighty works in the past, but also to look with faith and hope to the future which holds out to us and our world” .
During Mass we were asked to remember we are called by God - all peoples to live our baptismal promises by engaging our Head, Heart and Hands. ( Mass was celebrated by Bishop Peter and the pilgrims from Wollongong as Fr Chris is meeting us later) Throughout the pilgrimage we will be reflecting on how we can live our faith and keep it alive in our every day life.
May these photos help you reflect on the concept of promise, faith and hope as we journey together into 2020.

Today we visited Bethany beyond Jordan, this is an archeological site and is believed to be the Baptismal site of Jesus by John the Baptist. Often during this pilgrimage the Holy land is referred to as the Fifth gospel as it is the place where Jesus lived and Christianity began.
The structure you see is a replica of a church that once stood in this site. The steps lead down to the archeological site that is believed to be linked to the baptism of Jesus.

How special. You are lucky to be experiencing something so beautiful and sacred. Thank you for sharing with us. Glad you arrived safely. Xxx
