The Public Ministry of Jesus

On the banks of the Sea of Galilee sits Duc In Altum ( Put into the deep) these are the words Jesus spoke to his apostles after their unsuccessful night of fishing. When they followed Jesus instructions they were rewarded by an abundance of fish. We are invited to remember the past with gratitude to live the present with enthusiasm, and to look forward to the future with confidence.










Today we are challenged to be the new Mary and present Jesus to the world just as Mary did at the wedding of Cana. Not so people become intoxicated with the new wine but so they are full of the Spirit. How will you present Jesus to others?

Jesus is gifted to us and we need to unpack this gift not just regift it in the same paper but present it to others and encourage them to use their gift. It is a dance between life and love and we mayst always remember ALL human life is precious and needs to be celebrated. All human love is precious and needs to be celebrated. How will we gift Jesus?

 Behind these gates is where Mary was visited by the angel during the Annunciation.




At this basilica countries around the world are invited to create a representation of Mary.

    How amazing Leanda. What beautiful photos. I really loved the photos of the Baptismal site of Jesus by John the Baptist and the place where the Annuncuation occurred. I feel overwhelmed just admiring the photos so I can only imagine how you feel actually experiencing these sacred places. What a gift.
    Apart from these wonderful sites you are visiting, how's the weather there? Food? People?

      Where to start. The food is divine. We stopped a a restaurant today and had a whole fish for lunch. The weather is chilly around 6 degrees. Such a contrast with home. It has rained most days , according to our guide the Sea of Galilee has risen 1 metre in the last month due to all the rain. Last year it rose 3 metres so it is the opposite to Australia.

      Omg 6 degrees. I'd need a lot of wine to keep warm. Holy wine of course. Wow. Say a special prayer that we get some of that rain here xx I bet the food is so fresh and healthy. Especially the fish. Yum

Travelled to the other side of Jerusalem today across the Kidron Valley to the Mount of Olives, where we looked back towards the Golden gates and the city of Jerusalem. Interfaith Day

We began our day visiting the area of the Dome of the Rock in the Muslim Quarter of the old city. We couldn’t go into the buildings as we are not Muslim however we were able to walk around the Dome of the Rock and the mosque. This is the third holiest place in the Muslim faith after Mecca and Medina, as with in the dome is the rock on which they believe Muhammad transcended to heaven on a buraq. The area is known to Muslims as Al-Haram al-Sharif. It is also a very important site for the Jewish faith as they believe it is the place where Abraham is said to have prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac. The Western wall is one of the walls that surround the Temple Mount and it is a sacred site for the Jewish as it is the closest to the Temple Mount. The Western wall is where Jewish people come to pray. Being a sacred site for both faiths causes a lot of friction between the believers. Bethlehem

The most amazing moment happened today. We arrived in Bethlehem and headed to St Catherine which is the Catholic Church which is next to the Nativity where we celebrated Mass in a small chapel which shared a wall with the site of the nativity. After Mass Rami came down and informed us that the Franciscans have given us permission to join their procession. The star is where it is believed Jesus was born. After the procession we were able to go back the the Church of the Nativity and reflecting the birth of Jesus. It is hard to believe that Christians are in the minority in such an influential place in our faith. We have been discussing in our groups what sacrifices we need to make to be Catholic and it is so difficult for me to contemplate my own sacrifices as they seem to be so insignificant compared to the life of our fellow Catholics here.
